The 1st International Linguistics Olympiad

The 1st International Linguistics Olympiad was held in Borovets, Bulgaria from September 6 to September 12, 2003.

9 teams from 6 countries participated, with Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Netherlands, and Russia sending participants for the first time.

Participants competed to solve problems on diverse languages including Transcendental Algebra, Arabic, Basque, Adyghe, French, and Tocharian A and Tocharian B.

The jury awarded 7 medals (3 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze), as well as 3 team contest trophies and 9 best solution prizes.
